Position title: Graphic Designer
Reports to: Design Manager
Position Summary: The Designer is a key creative team member and responsible for these primary duties: Independently create design concepts that effectively communicate the mission of Best Friends. Understand and implement the brand guidelines in all their work photo, messaging, fonts, logo use, layout and overall look. Push design in novel ways, creating excellent work that is subsequently used as templates for similar projects. Thoroughly understand how to use and implement both online and print file formats. Approve designs from Production Designers when Design Manager is unavailable. Communicate with project coordinators and clients to ensure timely and accurate delivery of work.
Essential Duties: Create high-quality, eye-catching print and web work that accurately convey the Best Friends brand and message. Select, edit, enhance and optimize images for multiple web and print formats. Create promotional displays including signs and signage systems for public exhibition. Create designs for merchandise. Collaborate with the marketing, writing and editorial teams to visualize and execute designs. Implement principles of information design, user interaction and usability in design pieces to ensure readability as well as visual impact. Follow the Creative Team work and approval process to ensure proper input from team members and proper signoff. Participate in team collaboration and brainstorming activities.
Experience / Requirements: Degree in art, design or relevant field required. Two years of experience as a graphic designer. Advanced user of Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Mac OSX. PowerPoint and MS Word experience a plus. Mastery in layout, typography and design with ability to manage multiple competing tasks and demands. Imaginative flair and awareness of trends in the visual arts. Ability to interpret client needs into sound design creations with an eye towards organizational goals. Expertise in digital image formats and enhancing and optimizing images for both web and print technology. Working knowledge of CSS, web templates and other web technologies. Ability to make sound judgments, work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proven attention to detail with advanced organizational and time management skills. Exceptional communication (verbal and written), listening and customer service skills. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to accept input and creative direction and act on same. Ability to see projects through to completion.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use keyboard, mouse and other computer-based tools.
